Competing in the Software Industry: Quality as a Differentiator

SQA is the area that most people are most aware and refers to the steps taken to ensure the quality of the end-result. Typically this includes various forms of documented test criteria created at different stages of software development (unit test, system test and acceptance test), and includes test scenarios, test cases and the results of the test themselves. These are well known and well established processes that work to ensure a quality result if the testing is detailed, systematic and robust, and if the testers are diligent. This type of quality program typically sticks testing at the end of a project, and therefore tends to be the first thing cut from the schedule when the committed completion date slips.
